Couple therapy:
Peaceful solutions for difficult situations such as conflicts, separation and divorce

blank

We cuddle up blissfully when our parents read fairy tales to us in the evenings. And we learn: Once Prince Charming marries the Princess, both end up living happily ever after. Many years later we come to realise that the actual relationship work often starts after the wedding and sometimes even way before. And most of us have not been well prepared for this challenge.

But this work is extremely valuable and rewarding. And even if it does lead to separation or divorce it can be a big relief to do so in a peaceful and respectful way.

What can I do for you as an expert for couple therapy?

Normal conversation is simple not possible anymore; we constantly argue about unnecessary things; conversations always escalate; it feels although things always get out of control.

Conflicts with your partner can be very painful and drain an immense amount of energy, if they are left unresolved they can harm or even kill your love for one another.

Let’s discover good new ways to
get from damaging to healthy conflict patterns; find clarity regarding your present situation; find good solutions.

When I compare our family to others, we are actually doing well: the daily tasks are split up in a good way; my partner and I work together as a team and we complement each other well. Nevertheless, something important is missing - in the midst of organising our everyday life, love and passion has somehow disappeared.

With or without children, at some point daily routines which offer familiarity and security dominate your life. However, this can also lead to boredom leaving you wondering where the butterflies in your stomach have disappeared to and whether this is how love was meant to be.

Let’s discover good new ways to
find that spark again; revalidate your partnership and remember why you fell in love with your partner; actively create moments of magic as a pair.

Topics I would never have expected are standing between us; sometimes I feel that my partner is from another planet; when I try to explain my point of view I feel like I'm running against walls where there used to be openness and tolerance.

The world in which we grow up feels normal for us. We don’t realise that rules established in our culture may not be valid in others and what is normal and what is not can be completely different. The first step is to become aware of this and to look at the values and issues standing in the way of your relationship. The next step is to find individual solutions for your differences.

Let’s discover good new ways to
tackle your major issues of conflict; realise that new and different perspectives can also enrich your life; learn to embrace them without giving up your own.

About me

As children we learn from the people around us. Therefore, our family of origin shapes us early on and more than we often realise. Without knowing it, we develop behavioural patterns which we perceive as “normal” later on. But at some point in our lives they can actually turn to stand in the way of our lives and quite often this shows in the way we act as parents. Some of us end up with the shocking realisation that although we never wanted to be like our parents we have actually become like them. Not surprisingly, these patterns also often stand in the way of our relationships as a couple.

Wanting to learn all about these challenges and family dynamics I started my training as a family counselor at familylab (Jesper Juul). My additional training as a mediator helped me understand that family systems consist of different members with individual needs and interests.  Resolving conflicts resulting from difficult communication patterns is always a very rewarding task for me as a coach.
