Counseling for families and parents:

blank

As a family counselor I am happy to support you in building a loving parent-child relationship and encourage you to develop your own personal style as a parent.

As parents, we always want the best for our children. The only difficult thing is that sometimes we don’t know what is best:

If we don’t give enough input, we run the risk of being seen as parents who do not care enough. At the same time, we want our children to make and learn from their own mistakes and become stronger in the process.

If we control too much out of love, we run the risk of being branded as helicopter parents and as a result sometimes our children remain helpless and dependent unable to live their own lives later on.

Once you are clear about what is important for you as a parent you will find it easy to stay on track and both you and your children will benefit.

What can I do for you as a coach?

Typical statements from clients – sound familiar?
I am worried about my child's behaviour; I don't know why but it has changed a lot lately; it is acting aggressively and I don’t understand why; I feel it is withdrawing to a world I don’t know; I would really like to find out more and understand whether this is just a phase or whether there is something fundamentally wrong.

There are a lot of reasons why a child changes and displays behaviour which is worrying. As parents you don't always get to see what happened. For example your child may be experiencing mobbing at school. As an experienced family counselor I can help you figure out the missing parts of the puzzle and offer you the possibility of a neutral opinion from an outsider. As a counselor but also as a learning coach, I have worked with children of all ages and gained a lot of insights to challenges your child may be experiencing.

Let’s discover good new ways to
understand your child's situation; clarify whether further steps are necessary; dispel doubts and uncertainties.

Typical statements from clients – sound familiar?
I'm tired of the exhausting everyday fights over small things; my child is ignoring rules and agreements; our relationship is very strained due to ongoing fights and quarrels and something needs to change soon.

Your children don't always want what you want – that is normal and of course frustrating - for both parties. Dealing with frustration and anger is challenging for all of us, as we have rarely learned to deal with these emotions in a good way. Children need rules, but they also need parents who can set limits well. Let’s analyse your daily areas of dispute and develop new solutions for a peaceful and happy family life.

Let’s discover good new ways to
find out what makes you as a family; regain strength and confidence in doing so; eliminate disruptive behaviour; achieve a positive relationship with your children.

My child is having a hard time at school; it doesn't want to go to school anymore and I don't know how to change this; it often has stomach and / or headaches and I don't know if they are fake or not.

Kindergarten children are very proud and happy when they are finally old enough to go to school. Unfortunately, this can change because school systems don’t always fit the needs of your child. Even if they do sometimes things happen in the life of a school child which creates difficulties – in school but also outside of school. Let me help you resolve them so that they don’t end up being permanent and major problems. With my wealth of experience as a learning coach and family counselor I can help you find good solutions.

better understand your child's current school situation; find solutions to learning problems; decide what kind of support if any is necessary.

Typical statements from clients – sound familiar?
My child finds it difficult to deal with people; it avoids eye contact and has few or no friends; it prefers to stay at home and doesn't know what to say when strangers come home.

There can be various reasons why your child has a difficult time establishing contact with other people. This doesn't always have to be a big deal, sometimes it is enough to clarify a few things with your child and give it the time it needs. Look upon me as a neutral person who can give you professional and open feedback. With my extensive experience in helping children of all ages, I can also help you find new solutions where necessary.

Let’s discover good new ways to
better assess your child's behaviour; take action if and where necessary; make your child's life easier.

Typical statements from clients – sound familiar?
My child has lost a close family member and is struggling with the pain; we got divorced and my child is suffering from the separation; we have moved to another home and my child is having difficulties settling in and making friends.

Children have fewer strategies than adults and therefore often lack solutions to problems. As a family counselor but also as a grief counselor, I can support your child in processing the loss and leaving the pain behind. Also I can help it develop new strategies and solutions for the future.

Let’s discover good new ways to
help your child with its current pains and problems; make life easier for your child and reduce the pressure; prepare your child for future challenges in a good way.

About me

As children we learn from the people around us. Therefore, our family of origin shapes us early on and more than we often realise. Without knowing it, we develop behavioural patterns which we perceive as “normal” later on. But at some point in our lives they can actually turn to stand in the way of our lives and quite often this shows in the way we act as parents. Some of us end up with the shocking realisation that although we never wanted to be like our parents we have actually become like them. Not surprisingly, these patterns also often stand in the way of our relationships as a couple.

Wanting to learn all about these challenges and family dynamics I started my training as a family counselor at familylab (Jesper Juul). My additional training as a mediator helped me understand that family systems consist of different members with individual needs and interests.  Resolving conflicts resulting from difficult communication patterns is always a very rewarding task for me as a coach.
